Character, description
Perfect wood of greenish buff colour, with brown marbling, fragrant, undifferentiated sapwood, good mechanical resistance, good sustainability, easy to process and lathe. Mainly used to manufacture decorative objects, furniture or kitchen utensils. Very dense so difficult to dry. Very common in XVIIth and XVIIIth century furniture along the grain and across the grain. The wood of the olive tree, which grows very slowly and can reach extreme old age, is the proud carrier of a cultural history which goes back to ancient times. It’s a thick, hard, durable wood which has a discreet texture with greenish-brown veins softened by cloud-like patterns. A longitudinal cut frequently reveals darkish wavy lines. The golden-brown tones of this wood captivate and bewitch those who observe them.
