Character, description
The oak is often associated with the gods of lightning and light. Northern peoples had special respect for oaks due to their size, hardness and longevity. The decorative aspect of the wood is characterized by the series of rings structured with veins of young wood and distinctly separated growth rings which result in striking shapes or ribbons lengthwise. Typical of the oak are the wide bands which embellish its appearance, on top of its tone and grain texture. Its colour ranges from yellowish-grey to light brown or dark yellowish-brown. In the fine grains, it has a lovely blond colour with a typical vein pattern formed by large vessels contrasting with the fibrous tissue. The grain appears in the form of elongated and tapered lines at the ends, of a brown colour.
