Character, description
The wood varies from dark grey to black with regular or irregular reddish stripes. The wood possesses a special sheen. Despite its extreme hardness, Amara ebony is not particularly difficult to process. Very smooth surfaces are obtained after planing. It is recommended to protect oneself from the sawdust to avoid inflammation of the eyes and skin. The wood should be protected from sunlight. Because of its decorative aspect, the surfaces should be carefully polished. Glued joints are easy to make. Nailed joints are difficult to make and screwed joints should be pre-pierced.
