Character, description
This wood is rich in very irregular black vein patterns on a base which is greenish-brown when fresh, becoming brown when exposed to the air. It is found in the XVIIth century on Spanish furniture, then on English furniture. Until now, we have no trace of its use in French furniture. At present, this wood is mainly used in design and decoration. And the presence in the quartered wood of a very marked grain gives it an extraordinary depth. Brownish in colour with lighter and darker veins which sometimes alternate with a yellow decorative sapwood. Its striking structure, often in the form of elongated clouds, resembles that of Brazilian palisander.
